ZF developed the first 9-speed gearbox

ZF Friedrichshafen AG – manufacturing company transmissions and other automotive parts, created a unique 9-speed automatic transmission. The developers claim that the new transmission will save motorists up to 16% fuel.
16-percent fuel savings was calculated by comparison with the same car, equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Novelty designed for front-drive car with a transverse engine. Although developers were quick to assure that future new gearbox will be installed on any car with a different type of drive, hybrid engines as well. In addition, designers are going to combine CPU and System Start-Stop, which is set at the moment for many new models of cars.
Torque the new transmission will be 280-480 nm. In addition, the developers claim that such a large number of gears will not deliver hassle switching between speeds in the new "automatic" minimal. This in turn provides increased riding comfort and engine works in the most optimal mode, in which the fuel is consumed the most economical. In the ninth speed automatic gearbox developed 1900 r / min at a speed of 120 km / h, to compare conventional 6-speed automatic transmission – as many as 2600 rev / min.
Designers have not yet said when the 9-speed automatic gearbox will go into mass production, and set cars which makes it goeth. However, judging by the dynamics of the global car industry novelty will arrive next year for new road cars.
