American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluated the level of passive safety in hybrid models and cars with standard engines.
According to specialists of the Institute, "green"Vehicles provide better security than traditional cars. Drivers and passengers of hybrid and electric models in a crash are 25% fewer injuries than drivers of ordinary cars.
The researchers explain these results by the fact that hybrid and electric versions are on average 10% heavier modifications similar to gasoline or diesel engines. And as you know, the great mass of the vehicle has a positive effect on passive safety in a crash. It also plays a role more cautious style of driving drivers "Green"Cars.
However, hybrid and electric models are much more dangerous with respect to pedestrians than their "cousins" of traditional power plants. According to research IIHS, ceteris paribus in pedestrian probability of being whisked hybrid is 20% higher – the whole thing in motion quietness. In this regard, manufacturers are beginning to implement (so voluntarily, but soon it will become mandatory in the United States) of audible warning pedestrians. They are equipped with in 2010, for example, Toyota Pruis for the Japanese market, Pruis V and Nissan Leaf.
